Photosynth

I’m still processing this presentation by Blaise Aguera y Arcas, founder of Seadragon, Inc. and co-creator of Photosynth, but I wanted to put this out there for other geeks to ponder and hopefully respond to in greater depth.

Basically, Photosynth is software that takes digital photos and synthesizes them into zoomable, navigable spaces. It’s approximately the coolest thing I’ve ever seen, and I only wish I had half the computer knowledge necessary to understand how it all works.

One should note that this technology is, as Blaise noted, owned by Microsoft and is accessible from: http://labs.live.com/photosynth/

You’ll need to let MS install some crappy plugins on your machine, but it might well be worth it to check this out. As I wrote elsewhere, this thing is amazing.

I have a side rant about how it is that MS could have such a sweet technology and basically bury it on their crappy “live” site with no great pomp.
